If Lake Minnetoka Bays Were Highschool Cliques

If Lake Minnetoka Bays Were Highschool Cliques

If Lake Minnetonka Bays Were High School Cliques

Every bay has its personality.

And if you've spent any time on Lake Minnetonka, you know that every bay has its own vibe, its own crowd, and let's be honest, its own reputation.

So naturally, I started wondering:

What if Lake Minnetonka was one giant high school?

Here's my completely unofficial, highly subjective, and probably somewhat controversial yearbook. Relax, we are just having fun here.

Wayzata Bay: Student Council President

Perfect hair.

Perfect GPA.

Perfect college acceptance letter.

Wayzata Bay is the kid who somehow manages to be good at everything while still being annoyingly nice.

Their parents drive a Range Rover, they have a summer internship lined up before graduation, and they've never once missed a deadline.

Everyone secretly rolls their eyes.

Everyone secretly wishes they were them.

Excelsior Bay: The Cool Kids

Not the mean cool kids.

The effortlessly cool kids.

The ones who somehow know about every concert before tickets go on sale.

They've got a slightly beat-up Jeep, a golden retriever, and they definitely own at least one paddleboard.

You'll find them listening to live music on a patio and convincing everyone else to stay out for "just one more drink."

Smithtown Bay: The Athlete

Smithtown Bay wakes up at 5:30 a.m.

Voluntarily.

They're either training for a triathlon, water skiing, mountain biking, or doing something that makes the rest of us tired just thinking about it.

They own more athletic gear than regular clothes.

Their social calendar revolves around lake activities.

And somehow they're always tan.

Maxwell Bay: The Rich Kid

Let's just address the elephant in the room.

Maxwell Bay knows what a boat slip costs and isn't afraid of it.

Their house is incredible.

Their boat is incredible.

Their dock is bigger than some people's first apartments.

Nice people?

Absolutely.

But they're definitely showing up to school in a car worth more than the principal's salary.

Grays Bay: Class President Emeritus

Grays Bay has been around forever.

Everybody knows them.

Everybody likes them.

They know all the stories from back in the day and can tell you exactly what the lake looked like twenty years ago.

They've got roots.

Deep roots.

They're the kind of family whose grandparents, parents, and kids have all lived on the lake.

Lafayette Bay: Theater Kids

Creative.

Interesting.

A little quirky.

Lafayette Bay marches to its own beat.

They appreciate the arts, support local businesses, and somehow always know where the hidden gems are.

They don't care what everyone else thinks.

And honestly, that's part of the appeal.

Halsted Bay: The Outdoors Club

You'll find them fishing.

Or hiking.

Or kayaking.

Or doing something involving nature.

Halsted Bay isn't trying to impress anyone.

They're too busy enjoying the lake.

They know where the best fishing spots are and can probably identify every bird you point at.

Spring Park Bay: The Class Clown

The life of the party.

Always has a story.

Always has a friend on board.

Always knows where everyone is headed next.

You never know exactly what's going to happen when Spring Park Bay shows up, but you know it'll probably be entertaining.

Crystal Bay: Homecoming Royalty

Beautiful.

Popular.

Photogenic.

Crystal Bay somehow looks amazing from every angle.

The sunsets are ridiculous.

The homes are stunning.

The views never get old.

It's not their fault they're gorgeous.

The Narrows: The Hallway Between Classes

Nobody stays there long.

Everybody passes through.

Traffic can get a little congested.

Enough said.

Carson's Bay: The Quiet Kid Who Ends Up Being the Most Interesting Person in Class

Carson's Bay isn't loud about what it has.

It's comfortable with itself.

No need to show off.

The people who know it tend to love it.

The people who don't know it are usually surprised when they discover it.

The Real Truth About Lake Minnetonka

The funny thing is that every one of these stereotypes is both completely true and completely false.

That's what makes Lake Minnetonka special.

Every bay has its own personality, but they're all connected.

On any given summer weekend, you'll find boaters from every bay sharing the same water, the same sunsets, and the same stories.

Whether you're Team Excelsior, Team Wayzata, or somewhere in between, there's a reason people fall in love with this lake.

It's not just the water.

It's the people.
