I've Been Selling Real Estate Since 2001. I've Seen Some Things.

I've Been Selling Real Estate Since 2001. I've Seen Some Things.

I've Been Selling Real Estate Since 2001. I've Seen Some Things.

I got my real estate license on April 16, 2001.

At the time, I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

I thought I was getting a career.

What I actually got was a front-row seat to one of the most fascinating studies of human behavior imaginable.

For more than 25 years, I've helped people buy and sell homes through booming markets, crashing markets, bidding wars, recessions, low interest rates, high interest rates, divorces, marriages, babies, retirements, and just about every life event in between.

I've seen some things.

When I Started, Zillow Didn't Exist

Let that sink in for a minute.

When I got licensed, there was no Zillow.

No Redfin.

No smartphones.

No social media.

No online signatures.

No GPS

If buyers wanted to see homes, they called their Realtor.

If we needed signatures, we used a fax machine.

Younger readers may need to Google what a fax machine is.

I Survived the 2008 Housing Crash

If you've only been paying attention to real estate over the last few years, it's hard to explain how scary 2008 felt.

Homes sat on the market.

Financing disappeared.

Values dropped.

People lost jobs.

People lost homes.

It was a painful reminder that real estate isn't just numbers and contracts.

It's people's lives.

That market taught me more about problem-solving, creativity, and perseverance than any real estate class ever could.

Then Came the Opposite Problem

Fast forward to 2020.

Suddenly buyers were writing offers on homes they hadn't even seen in person.

People were waiving inspections.

Multiple offers became normal.

Twenty offers on a house wasn't unusual.

Twenty years into my career, I was still learning new things.

That's one of the reasons I love this business.

The market changes.

The job keeps changing.

The Things That Never Change

Technology changes.

Interest rates change.

Markets change.

People don't.

After all these years, I've noticed the same emotions show up over and over again.

Fear.

Excitement.

Hope.

Stress.

Second-guessing.

I've watched buyers worry they'll never find the right house.

I've watched sellers worry their home won't sell.

I've watched people panic the day before closing and then laugh about it a week later.

The details change.

The emotions don't.

The Most Expensive Mistakes Are Usually Emotional

Want to know something I've learned after hundreds of transactions?

The biggest mistakes are rarely financial.

They're emotional.

Buying because you're afraid someone else will get the house.

Selling because you're angry.

Making assumptions.

Getting offended during negotiations.

Talking yourself out of a great opportunity.

Sometimes my job isn't helping people buy or sell a home.

Sometimes my job is helping them avoid making a decision they'll regret.

Every House Has a Story

One of the things I love most about this business is the people.

I've sold homes for newlyweds.

I've sold homes for widows.

I've sold homes for growing families.

I've sold homes for retirees.

I've sold homes for people celebrating the best days of their lives and people navigating some of the hardest.

A house is never just a house.

It's where life happened.

And that's something I never forget.

What 25 Years Has Taught Me

If I had to summarize everything I've learned in one sentence, it would be this:

Real estate isn't really about houses.

It's about people.

The contracts matter.

The negotiations matter.

The market knowledge matters.

But at the end of the day, this business is about helping people move from one chapter of life to the next.

I've been fortunate enough to help hundreds of clients do exactly that.

And after 25 years, I still genuinely love it.

Even if I occasionally miss the simplicity of a fax machine.

Just kidding.

Mostly.

Thinking About Buying or Selling?

Whether you're buying your first home, selling your last, or somewhere in between, experience matters.

I've seen markets rise.

I've seen markets fall.

I've seen just about everything in between.

And while I can't promise there won't be surprises along the way, I can promise you'll have someone in your corner who's probably seen something similar before.

Because after 25 years in real estate...

I've seen some things.
